Tony Melvin has become one of Australia’s most successful money authors of all time, selling 100,000 books, including How to Legally Reduce Your Tax (2006) and Wealth for Life (2008). Both have been in the top ten list of business books since release and both are Money Magazine Best of the Best Books. Until recently, Melvin was Managing Director of national accounting firm, Chan & Naylor, named by BRW as Australia’s Fastest Growing Accounting Firm, 2007 and 2008.
But Melvin has seen harder days, admitting in From Red to Black he worked two jobs, including cleaning grease traps in restaurants, to pay off killer debts between 2001 and 2003. In 2001, after selling all his assets, even his beloved surfboard, Melvin was desperate and broke. In From Red to Black he tells the extraordinary story of how he repaid all debts and even kept creditors happy.
“90% of creditors just need to know they will get their money eventually. I wanted to show other people how to manage the repayments plus how to communicate with creditors and lawyers. I still deal with some of the companies I owed money to back then,” Melvin says.
